USPS Shipping Updates April 2022

Below is a summary of the USPS rate changes for 2022:

Domestic Shipping Rates (Commercial Base Pricing)

  • Priority Mail Express rates will increase by an average of 4.3% in 2022. Rates will start at $23.50 (0.5 lb. Zone 1 & 2) in 2022 from $22.75 in 2021, an increase of $0.75.
  • Priority Mail rates will increase by an average of 2.7% in 2022. Rates will start at $7.37 (1 lb. Zone 1 & 2) in 2022 from $7.16 in 2021, an increase of $0.21.
  • First-Class Package Service rates will increase by an average of 7.4% in 2022. Rates will start at $3.37 (1 ounce Zone 1 & 2) in 2022 from $3.01 in 2021, an increase of $0.36.
  • Parcel Select Ground rates will DECREASE by an average of 12.1% in 2022. Rates will start at $7.22 (1 lb. Zone 1 & 2) in 2022 from $7.01 in 2021, an increase of $0.21.
  • Media Mail rates on average will increase by an average of 12.1% in 2022. Rates will start at $3.19 (1 lb. single piece) in 2022 from $2.89 in 2021, an increase of $0.30.

International Shipping Rates (Commercial Base Pricing)

  • Priority Mail Express International rates will increase by an average of 3.2% in 2022. Rates will start at $44.95 (0.5 lb. Country Group 1) in 2022 from $42.85 in 2021, an increase of $2.10.
  • Priority Mail International rates will increase by an average of 3.7% in 2022. Rates will start at $37.47 (1 lb. Canada Zone 1.1 & 1.2) in 2022 from $35.72 in 2021, an increase of $1.75.
  • First-Class Package International Service rates will increase by an average of 4.2% in 2022. Rates will start at $14.11 (1 ounce Country Group 1) in 2022, from $13.54 in 2021, an increase of $0.57.

Additional Shipping Changes

  • New for 2022: Starting in April, the USPS will be adding a $1.50 fee for packages that are greater than one cubic foot or have a box length greater than 22 inches if the customer did not provide dimensions or provided inaccurate dimensions.
  • New for 2022: Starting in April, the USPS will be a new “nonstandard fee” for packages that must be sorted manually when the dimensions of the package exceed sortation requirements. Rates will be adjusted based on box dimensions. Packages with length over 22 inches will have a $4.00 surcharge, packages with length over 30 inches will have $15.00 surcharge (skateboard boxes are 33 inches long) and packages over 2 cubic feet will have a $15.00 surcharge. 

Mailing Rates

  • One-ounce letter, postcard and large envelope (flats) postage rates WILL NOT be increasing for domestic delivery on January 9, 2022.
  • International one-ounce letter and postcard rates will be increasing by $0.10 to $1.30 in 2022, from $1.20 in 2021.
  • New for 2022: Starting in July 2022, USPS mailing services will have scheduled bi-annual postage rate increases occurring two times per year – in January and July.
